The biggest reason the Miami Dolphins should extend Jordyn Brooks has nothing to do with his All-Pro play

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks is still waiting for a contract extension. His best argument for one doesn’t even lie with his All-Pro caliber play.

The Miami Dolphins‘ 2026 reset is just getting started.

And while the long-term outlook for the roster will feature many players not currently on the roster, the foundation that’s being laid here and now will set the tone for everything. And that brings us to linebacker Jordyn Brooks, one of Miami’s best players. He’s on the verge of a contract year — and is one of the team’s unquestioned leaders. In a recent interview with Travis Wingfield of Drive Time, Brooks talked about his growth as a leader. That value stands to make the looming decision on extending Brooks even easier.

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks’ long-term value transcends his All-Pro caliber performance

“I think experience is the best teacher. Going through a couple highs and lows here in this league. The last two years for us as a team hasn’t been what we wanted it to be. A lot of highs and lows and I think during those moments, you kind of learn how to become a better leader. Starting the season off 1-6, you got to make a decision. we still got half a season left to go. We got to dig deep and continue to be the same guy. I think during that moment, it really really helped me as far as the leadership aspect to continue to be the same guy, pull other guys with you and keep going.”

Make no mistake about it. The next few years in South Florida are going to offer some more of those same ups and downs that Brooks is talking about. The team is going to be young, inexperienced, and they’ll need to all grow up together. You don’t think someone who lived up to his All-Pro ability and stayed the course amid a 1-6 start won’t bring quality mentorship to all that youth?

That can be, beyond stellar play and endearing himself to the fanbase, Jordyn Brooks’ lasting legacy as a Miami Dolphin. Because if the Dolphins end up getting this build right? The tone set by Brooks and the other leaders will echo for years to come. It’s an added layer that certainly makes the would-be price tag for extending Brooks worth it. He’s walked the walk, as evidenced by how he responded in 2025.
