The Miami Dolphins have less than a month to decide if they are going to “sell” any players at the NFL trade deadline. A handful of reasonable candidates stand out, none more obvious than veteran OT Austin Jackson.

Jackson is in a contract year and is a holdover from the past regime. He will likely be replaced after the season. Given his durability concerns and lack of a low end contract, Jackson has the makings of a perfect insurance rental at offensive tackle for a contending team. And one such team just saw a potential need at tackle fall into their lap. The Dolphins should be keeping an eye on the Jacksonville Jaguars if they’re serious about moving Jackson.

The Jacksonville Jaguars could be a team worth selling on OT Austin Jackson…if the Miami Dolphins are interested

The Jaguars just saw standout left tackle Anton Harrison go down with a knee injury. His prognosis for the season is not yet known. But the reporting offers a clue that Harrison may be in line for an extended absence. Should his recovery window extend into the winter months, perhaps Jacksonville would find themselves in the market for a tackle via trade.

Yes, Jackson could make sense.

The Jaguars are down to two healthy tackles on the active roster. Walker Little and Cole Van Lanen. Harrison, based on reporting, sounds destined for a stint on injured reserve. And thanks to Miami’s structuring of Jackson’s remaining compensation, he’d require minimum salary the rest of the way from a new team. Given the Dolphins’ lack of long-term stockpiled picks, perhaps they’ll find themselves at a tipping point where a future pick is more valuable than the final half of the season with Jackson. And, if that moment comes, the Dolphins can get a look at third-year tackle Caedan Wallace in his place. Wallace is under contract for 2027 after Miami acquired him via trade with the New England Patriots.

So keep your eyes peeled for an update out of Jacksonville, Miami fans. This could be the start of a perfect storm.
