Las Vegas Raiders rookie Fernando Mendoza just broke down the side of being a quarterback that fans don’t get to see often
The Las Vegas Raiders definitely drafted the right guy in rookie QB Fernando Mendoza.
The Las Vegas Raiders made the decision to finally go after their franchise quarterback. They ended up getting the Heisman and National Champion, Fernando Mendoza. Now, they are making sure that everything is right before he steps foot on the field as a starter.
Vegas didn’t draft Mendoza because he’s one of the most talented QBs in the league, or even because he’s physically gifted. He is talented and gifted. However, the skills that set him apart are his IQ and his work ethic. But the IQ really stands out, and he showed that recently. This week, Mendoza showcased some of his IQ and broke down aspects of the game you don’t often see QBs break down.
With former NFL QB Kurt Benkert, he laid out some of the pass protection variances. He also went over some of his favorite fourth-and-goal plays. The video is long, but it’s worth the watch. It’s especially worth watching if you’re a Raiders fan who wants to get a closer look at the guy who’s likely going to lead your franchise for years to come.

Fernando Mendoza does have a quirky side to him, too. Many people think that Mendoza is fake, as some would say. They think his personality is fabricated or just not authentic on camera. But he’s the same guy all around, and all of his teammates have been able to vouch for him. And, he realizes what the narrative is about him.
“The media painted a picture about me that was a little, maybe a little different than my true personality, especially for the Ohio State game,” Mendoza said. “After I said, you know, flipping, rather than f****** and, at that point, it was like, okay, he doesn’t curse, he’s a goodie two-shoes, and I don’t know, like, my whole thing is, like, yeah, I communicate with your teammates, communicate with coaches.
“So, let me get really good at speaking. I’ve always taken speech classes; I’ve always looked at YouTube videos on how to communicate, you know, how to be a better leader, and a huge reader as well. So, with that, it’s developed senses where people like all this guy’s ChatGPT, but I’ve been able to connect my teammates really well and not in a ChatGPT scenario.”
The Raiders have their guy, and that’s all that matters. It’s clear he is a very intelligent player and capable of leading his team to success. Vegas is happy with the decision they made.
