The Las Vegas Raiders ended up getting the potential steal of the draft, with Jermod McCoy in the fourth round.

McCoy can be one of the best CBs in the league. He has that kind of potential. He was the best CB in the draft, but fell because his knee injury scared every team away. Now, will it take some development? Yes. But the main part is just getting healthy, staying healthy, and having a good training camp. He’s doing that so far. In fact, he feels very good, and the Raiders have handled it all extremely well.

“I think it’s been a great process. From the day I came in to the way I feel now is so much better. They done got me right,” McCoy told reporters on Monday after practice when asked how he’s feeling.

McCoy’s injury was described as one that could keep him from getting a second contract in the NFL. That’s why teams were so hesitant to draft him, especially in the first round. Shoot, even the Raiders were hesitant to take him in the second and third rounds. But they were confident enough to trade up to get him in the fourth.

Raiders may hit on two Day 3 cornerbacks

Hitting on McCoy, getting what his potential actually is, would be huge. He’s a Day 3 pick who has top-ten CB potential. That would be amazing for the Raiders. Then you look in the next round, and the Raiders drafted Hezekiah Masses.

Masses has been tearing up training camp. He’s been battling with Darien Porter for those first-team reps, and in many ways he’s been the best cornerback during training camp.
