Terron Armstead continues to be a popular offseason resource for Bears offensive linemen ahead of training camp

Multiple Chicago Bears offensive linemen have spent the offseason working out with former New Orleans Saints five-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Terron Armstead, an invaluable resource that the Bears are taking advantage of.

It’s incredible how quickly the Chicago Bears turned a major weakness on the offensive line into the arguably the biggest strength on the entire team under the guidance of head coach Ben Johnson and offensive line coach Dan Roushar.

While the Bears got better at acquiring the right talent such as Joe Thuney, Jonah Jackson, Drew Dalman, Garrett Bradbury, Logan Jones, Ozzy Trapilo, and more over the last two years, the work the coaching staff has put in up-front doesn’t get near enough respect.

Johnson literally weaponizes his offensive line and puts his players in the trenches in the best position to not only succeed, but be real highlight-worthy players. Roushar, meanwhile, is the brains behind the operation and continues to be a key asset for his players, even during the time in which coaches are unable to work with the players.

Former Saints standout OT Terron Armstead has turned into an invaluable resource for the Bears

Throughout the offseason, Roushar has sent his players down to work with former New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins standout tackle Terron Armstead. Roushar considers Armstead to be “the standard” of high quality offensive line play after coaching him to three Pro Bowls with the Saints (Armstead was named to two more with Miami).

The player that benefitted the most from working with Armstead was Bears left tackle Braxton Jones. Armstead was highly complementary of Jones’ offseason growth and the trajectory he’s on for Chicago heading into training camp. Armstead said he also spent time earlier in the offseason working with tackles Jedrick Wills Jr. and Theo Benedet.

With less than a month until training camp opens for the Bears, two more Chicago offensive linemen spent time away from the facilities working with Armstead. On Friday, Armstead posted a few training pictures on his social media with Bears right tackle Darnell Wright and former third-round pick Kiran Amegadjie among the group, along with Benedet getting more work in.

Darnell Wright, Theo Benedet, and Kiran Amegadjie are on three different playing fields entering camp

It’s fascinating to see those three specific players working with Armstead during the summer break because all three are on different playing fields entering training camp.

Wright is coming off a second-team All Pro selection and looking to solidify himself as one of the top right tackles in the NFL going into his fourth season. He’s also hoping to ink a massive long-term deal in the coming weeks.

Benedet, the former UDFA, impressed the staff last season starting eight games and playing in 16 between left tackle, right tackle, and swing tackle. The coaches were pleased with his athleticism in the run game but felt there was more he could offer in terms of pass-pro. Going into camp, the Bears plan to cross-train Benedet at both tackle positions to get him ready for the swing tackle role once again.

And then you have Amegadjie who, thus far, has been a draft bust for the Bears. Since being drafted 75th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Amegadjie has played just six games with the Bears and had an injury-riddled career. Amegadjie was seen taking second-team reps at left tackle during the spring and could be looking at his last shot to prove himself over the next few weeks.

Are three players have different expectations heading into training camp, yet all three managed to spend their summer break working with, and learning from, one of the best to ever do it. Armstead’s a great resource for those players to work with ahead of the 2026 season.
