Your hopes for a Miami Dolphins reunion were dashed this afternoon — but a new detail reveals it was always a pipe dream
If you were hoping for a reunion between the Miami Dolphins and Rasul Douglas, I’ve got bad news for you.
If you were hoping for a reunion between the Miami Dolphins and cornerback Rasul Douglas, I don’t blame you.
Douglas, who signed with the Dolphins late in the summer last season, was terrific throughout the course of the 2025 season. Amid plenty of questions about the Miami cornerback room, Douglas brought legitimate play and experience to the perimeter. He was terrific. But as an older veteran, it stood to question whether or not he’d be a fit for Miami in 2026. We now know our answer on the heels of the news that Douglas was signing…with the Washington Commanders.

It was never meant to be, friends.
The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reported quickly on the heels of the news that Rasul Douglas was signing with the Commanders that Miami never even made an offer. The veteran cornerback had some overlap with the team’s new leadership in Green Bay. Douglas started the 2023 season in Green Bay with then defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. But the front office, with Jon-Eric Sullivan in house, traded Douglas at the deadline to the Buffalo Bills.
Miami has insisted throughout the course of this offseason that they wanted to get younger and cheaper. Yes, Douglas was a long in the tooth veteran. But 2025 proved he could still play at a very high level. So much so, though, that his stock raised to the point where the Commanders were willing to offer him “up to” $3.8 million this season. And so while the clues were always present, we now have a formal answer. The Miami Dolphins’ new regime never saw Douglas as a viable fit for their short-term plans. Sorry if you had your hopes up.
