The Miami Dolphins weren’t much in the way of players in free agency in 2026. That figures to change in 2027. But the process that they, and the rest of the league, take to get ready for it is going to look dramatically different moving forward.

Because one of the league’s primary tentpole events, the annual NFL Combine in Indianapolis, has typically had a buffer window between it and the start of the free agency action. That is, per reports, no longer the case.

The 2027 NFL offseason will be even more crazy than usual for the Miami Dolphins and the rest of the league

They say that a lot of preliminary groundwork for business in free agency is laid in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine. It’s going to be even more true than in years past next winter. Why? Because the NFL has officially released the dates for the upcoming year — and free agency is hot on the heels of the Combine.

Per reports, the NFL’s annual Scouting Combine wraps on Sunday, March 8, 2027 this upcoming spring. And the legal tampering period opens one day later on March 9th. That is a crazy fast turnaround, especially as some teams have started opting to keep their essential front office personnel at home for the Combine in order to get ready for their pro scouting decisions in free agency.

Good luck to these teams amid their hopes of sorting out those logistics now. But for the 2027 Miami Dolphins, it will be a pivotal window. Miami is set to have nearly $100 million in cap space for the 2027 offseason. Free agency spending will fire back up once again after a few down years. And getting the signings right will be essential and the Dolphins look to climb back into contention with a new nucleus of talent in place. They’ll need to be ready to roll going INTO Indianapolis next spring. Because they, officially, won’t have much time at all afterwards to set things into place.
