Nick Bonitto has earned his place among the NFL’s elite edge rushers, landing inside the top 10 at the position in ESPN’s annual player rankings as voted on by league personnel. The Denver Broncos pass rusher checks in after a breakout stretch that has put the rest of the AFC on notice.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler published the rankings, which rely on votes from evaluators and personnel across the league. One evaluator told Fowler that Bonitto has “the best get-off in the league.” That alone is a significant endorsement, but it only tells part of the story.

Nik Bonitto 2025 stats

  • 14 sacks.
  • 14 tackles for loss.
  • 3 forced fumbles.

Why Bonitto’s skill set is so dangerous

The get-off matters. First-step quickness separates good pass rushers from great ones. But what makes the Denver edge rusher so difficult to block is the combination of that explosiveness with his ability to bend the arc and flatten his rush path around the corner.

Bonitto’s ankle flexibility, hip looseness, and lower-body mechanics allow him to run the hoop and redirect toward the quarterback at angles most edge rushers simply cannot reach. Those two traits together determine how well a rusher can finish, and finishing is what produces sacks.

He is not the biggest defender on the field. Nobody is lining him up as a 4i or 5-technique and asking him to win with a bull rush. That’s not his game. His game is speed rush, and in that department, he may already be the best in the NFL.

The arrow is pointing up for Denver’s pass rusher

Bonito is only 26 years old. That’s a critical detail when projecting where he lands on lists like this in the future. Edge rushers tend to peak in their late twenties, which means his best football could still be ahead of him.

The key variables are health, durability, and continued technical development. His hand fighting and ability to win against a variety of offensive tackle archetypes will determine whether he stays in the top 10 or climbs even higher. If he keeps refining those areas, there is no reason he can’t push into the top five at the position within the next couple of seasons.

What’s next for Nik Bonitto?

The truth is, a top-10 ranking might already be conservative for a player with Bonitto’s combination of burst and bend. If he stays on this trajectory, the ranking will look low by this time next year.
