The Ohio State Buckeyes have put together a solid 2027 class to this point, and there’s still work to do.

Ohio State is off and running working on its 2028 recruiting class as well, and last week was big for them with the addition of WR Jett Harrison.

As we get into the fall, recruiting will pick up for the class of 2028. Ohio State has been in connection with a big-time NFL legacy recruit, and he’s set to be in Columbus during the 2026 season.

NFL legacy schedules Ohio State visit for big game in 2026

Ohio State hosted former NFL safety Eric Weddle’s son 2028 S Gaige Weddle for an unofficial visit recently. According to Rivals’ Adam Gorney, Weddle will be back for another visit when Ohio State hosts Michigan on Nov. 28.

At this point in the 6-foot-2, 175-pound athlete’s recruitment, it’s the Buckeyes, Oklahoma, and Georgia out in front. Weddle will also visit Utah when his father is inducted into the Ring of Honor there.

Ohio State safeties coach Matt Guerrieri is leading the recruitment of Weddle, and the Ohio State assistant is making a difference.

“It’s mutual respect,” Weddle said via Rivals. “He’s what I want in a college coach and he has a vision for me. We kind of laid that out and what type of player I’m going to be and what I can do. At this point, we’ve transitioned to the part where it’s almost a friendship where we can talk about anything.

“With that being said, we do get time in meetings and we do get time on film and correcting things, and what things work, what things don’t, and watching coverages and watching their defense and seeing what Caleb Downs did. It’s really special.”

Ohio State’s only commit on defense out of its three in the class of 2028 is four-star DL Jameer Whyce. According to 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Weddle is the No. 95 player and No. 5 athlete in the class of 2028.

Weddle has 22 offers currently and getting him on campus for a game is critical in Ohio State’s hopes of landing him. For the Buckeyes to have him on campus for their game against Michigan shows how badly they want him to be a part of their 2028 haul.
