Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Dont’e Thornton is undoubtedly a VFL.

Thornton, a fourth-round selection by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2024 NFL Draft, has always spoken positively about his time on Rocky Top.

The former Vol, however, admitted earlier this month that he likes Oregon’s uniforms more than Tennessee’s.

Thornton, who spent the first two seasons of his college career with the Ducks, made the admission during a recent appearance on Burn Factory.

“I’m sorry Tennessee fans,” said Thornton. “But Oregon has the better uniforms. Oregon has the best uniforms in college football in general. That’s why that was my dream school when I was a little kid. But Tennessee has some [good] uniforms, too.

“I like the Smokey Greys… the Smokey Greys we had my senior year were hard.”

Dont’e Thornton may have a point about “banning” one uniform combination for the Vols

Thornton went on to add that the Vols’ classic orange and white look is just “alright,” noting that he preferred the dark mode and greys while also giving the all-white uniforms some love.

“The all-white was hard,” said Thornton. “I remember we played Vandy and we wore all white. That was fire.”

“What I didn’t like, though, was whenever we went white with orange bottoms. We always got cooked. That was always a bad [game] whenever we wore those. They need to ban that uniform combination.”

Thornton has a good reason for not liking the orange bottoms with white tops — that’s the uniform the Vols were wearing when he suffered a season-ending injury against Missouri in 2023 (Tennessee lost that game 36-7).

Tennessee also wore orange bottoms with white tops when they lost on the road to Arkansas in 2024 (Thornton may have a point about banning that combination).

Uniform opinions are subjective, so hopefully Vols fans don’t hold this against Thornton. If anything, it’s a reminder that long-time fans don’t always share the same opinion as the players actually wearing the uniforms on game days. And there’s certainly nothing wrong with that.
