NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans offensive line may actually be worse than it was a year ago. Much effort has been made to improve things around quarterback Cam Ward this season, but his protection is the roster’s biggest uncertainty.
Training camp, and specifically joint practices with the Niners, Seahawks and Bears, will tell us everything we need to know.
Titans offensive line improved less than any other position
Layup answer.
Dan Moore returns as a completely average left tackle. Guard Peter Skoronski was the group’s best player and trending towards top tier. Lloyd Cushenberry was cut after a disappointing, injury-marred tenure at center. Kevin Zeitler, who played significantly better football down the stretch, remains an unrestricted free agent. There are no real indications two weeks before camp whether he plans to return to the Titans or not.
Right tackle JC Latham battled through a season-long hip injury in 2025, but has simply not lived up to his draft pedigree as the former seventh overall pick.
The competition at right guard and center does not inspire confidence.
Cordell Volson, signed in free agency, has starting experience but is not a good option. Drew Moss and Jackson Slater will compete at right guard. Austin Schlottmann, who came over from the New York Giants with familiarity in the offensive line coaching staff’s system has the inside track to be snapping to Ward this Fall. Andre James, signed toward the end of minicamp, rounda out the current center competition.
Schlottman and Volson would represent a step backwards.
Can an improved scheme and better play from quarterback Cam Ward help mask the Tennessee Titans offensive line’s deficiencies? Probably so. Ward admitted that half of his league-leading sack total last season was on him, and there is plenty of evidence showing he tried to extend plays too often as a rookie. The athletes on NFL defensive lines are significantly better than anything he faced in college, and his renowned escapability did not translate the way he expected.
The offensive line is going to need that kind of help from its quarterback, because this is not a quality unit.
