Ohio State football might lose out on five-star RB David Gabriel Georges for a reason that’ll have a lot of fans angry
We are getting closer and closer to the commitment date of Ohio State top target David Gabriel Georges. The latest detail around the financials being offered might just be the difference in where Gabriel Georges goes.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are awaiting word from their top target five-star RB David Gabriel Georges on where he’s going to attend college.
On July 22, Gabriel Georges will decide between Ohio State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss for his college destination. It’s seen as a two-team race between the Buckeyes and Vols as it has been for some time.
Ohio State has put its all in on landing Gabriel Georges and we’ll soon see if it’s enough. The Buckeyes are willing to spend more on Gabriel Georges than they have on any other incoming freshman running back.
Ohio State’s reported financial offer to David Gabriel Georges needs to be increased
The Buckeyes have a firm sticking point with how they operate on the NIL front and paying players. Ohio State will pay as much as anyone else in the country, but they don’t necessarily give out multi-million dollar deals to freshman. Their deal on the table for Gabriel Georges is reported by On3’s Chris Low to be a bit lower than Tennessee.
“According to sources, the Vols’ total package is for three years and in the $2 million range annually,” Low wrote on Monday. “The Buckeyes are also prepared to pay Gabriel Georges more than $1 million annually with a multi-year deal.”
Ohio State is looking at around $3 million in total over three years it appears, while the Vols could be offering around $6 million over the same time. For a player who is split between two schools, Gabriel Georges very well could side with the financial offer, with it being the difference between the two teams.
David Gabriel Georges doesn’t need Ohio State and the Buckeyes don’t need him
The talented running back recruit can go and star at either school while likely being a three-year and out player heading to the NFL. But a running back doesn’t have a long NFL shelf life and Gabriel Georges could maximize his value in college before his NFL earnings ever begin.
It’s been stated that the school Gabriel Georges picks won’t be based on money, but that it is a factor. Ohio State could give him a pay bump after his first season to mirror what he would be making in Knoxville, but they don’t typically like to guarantee that kind of money until they have a player on campus for some time.
The five-star running back would be a home run addition for the Buckeyes, and not getting him would leave them going back to the drawing board. We will soon have that answer, and Ohio State may need to up its NIL offer in the meantime if they want to be in the best position to land Gabriel Georges.
