Florida Gators made a major impression on elite five-star recruit ‘I could see myself doing great things’
Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall continues to make moves with five-star recruits, and it’s not stopping anytime soon.
The Florida Gators’ recruiting efforts since the hiring of head coach Jon Sumrall have not gone unnoticed throughout the country.
The 2027 recruiting class currently has 26 commitments in it, with a nation leading 17 blue chip recruits. They are also going hard at two five-star recrits in the 2027 class: wide receiver Easton Royal and defensive lineman Jalen Brewster.
While the 2027 class remains the priority, the Gators are still working hard on the class of 2028, and they are making an impact with the top of the class.
Florida Gators in contention for 5-star OT Antijuan Wilkes Jr.
The offensive line has been one of the biggest recruiting success stories for the Gators in the last few months. Offensive line coach Phil Trautwein has done a great job in bringing in high-level talent and getting them to commit to play for the Gators.
The next high-level commit could be Antijuan Wilkes Jr., who has aspirations to win the Heisman Trophy.
“I wanna win the Heisman if I could,” Wilkes laughed when talking to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong.
It’s great that the Detroit, Michigan product has high aspirations. He is the No. 16 overall recruit and the No. 2 offensive tackle in the class of 2028. Standing at 6-5 and 265 pounds, he’s got insane upside.
“High-upside offensive tackle prospect who looks like one of the top linemen early on in the 2028 cycle. Has a projectable frame with elite length, measuring in at around 6-foot-5, 265 pounds with 35+ arms prior to his junior season. Lines up at left tackle for Cass Tech, one of the top talent-producing programs in Michigan. A loose, nimble mover. Gets to the second level with ease as a run blocker. Has the reactive quickness and length to project at a high level as a pass blocker. Will need to continue adding good weight and strength to his frame,” wrote Rivals’ Charles Power.
He’s got six schools on his radar, including the Gators, and Sumrall’s staff has made a big impression on him. “Everything, I could see myself doing great things there.”
There is a long way to go with his recruitment, but the Gators are in a great spot heading into the season.
