‘I can’t even answer that question’ – Josh Heupel got tripped up when asked about the hottest UT football topic of the summer
Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel almost got tripped up on Monday when asked about 5-star RB David Gabriel Georges.
104.5 The Zone’s Ron Slay, a former Vols basketball player, had Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel speechless for a moment on Monday.
Heupel, who is always at his best during his appearances on 104.5 The Zone’s 3HL, was asked by Slay who the better high school running back is: former Vol Jamal Lewis or 2027 five-star David Gabriel Georges.
Tennessee, of course, is hoping to land Gabriel Georges over Ohio State on July 22.
“I’ve only — what are you talking about, man,” said Heupel. “… Jamal’s the best back. I can’t even answer that question.”

It’s a bit of a gray area when it comes to recruits and what coaches can say publicly. So to be safe, most coaches elect to remain silent when asked publicly about a recruit.
Heupel, though, clearly wasn’t expecting to hear Gabriel Georges’ name in that moment, so he didn’t have a plan.
Vols fans are certainly hoping to hear Heupel talk plenty about Gabriel Georges in the future.
