Cowboys News: Brian Schottenheimer provides big-name injury updates ahead of training camp practice No. 6
The Dallas Cowboys are back on the practice field and Schottenheimer provided updates on Tyler Guyton, DeMarvion Overshown, and others following recent injuries.
The last time the Dallas Cowboys took the practice field, multiple players suffered injuries. Fortunately, based on head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s comments, most were minor.
Below is a list of updates provided by the Cowboys head coach ahead of Thursday’s practice. That starts with a big sigh of relief at left tackle.
OT Tyler Guyton
The same day Schottenheimer declared Guyton the front runner to start at left tackle on the Cowboys, the latter exited practice with a sore elbow. However, it appears as if it was just a precautionary measure, as hinted by offensive coordinator Klayton Adams.
Schottenheimer indicated on Thursday Guyton will return to the practice field. That likely means no first-team reps for Nate Thomas, who has to prove more to the coaching staff before sparking any controversy at the position again.
LB DeMarvion Overshown
Overshown was held out of team reps on Tuesday due to sore legs. The Cowboys are being extra cautious with him. His injury history is already a concern, and his availability will go a long way in determining his success now that he is projected to start at middle linebacker.
For now, he’s doing fine. Schottenheimer announced Overshown will be back on the practice field on a limited basis. He will get “some team reps.”
S Alijah Clark
Clark suffered an injury during a rep in which he was running downfield in coverage during team drills on Tuesday. He had to be helped off the field and headed into the medical tent.
It sounds like the Cowboys avoided a bullet here, though. Schottenheimer indicated they’re not worried about Clark, though he will be a limited on Thursday.
Insider Nick Eatman reported Wednesday the team was hesitant because Clark had suffered an injury in college on the same foot.
Other injury notes
- Previously, the Cowboys announced TE Princeton Fant suffered a torn ACL and partially torn MCL.
- Safety Jalen Thompson is doing great but will remain out of practice for now to take advantage of Friday being an off day.
- Safety Zion Childress is a “couple of weeks” away.
- DE Jonathan Bullard is out of practice Thursday.
- Cowboys rookie CB Devin Moore is dealing with a groin injury.
