The hype train for Kansas City Chiefs rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen seemingly has no limit.
There’s hype train, and then there’s HYPE TRAIN. The buzz around Kansas City Chiefs fifth-round wide receiver Cyrus Allen appears to be reaching the latter — even amid an injury scare early in training camp. Allen’s early flashes, paired with a wide receiver room that’s waiting for someone to seize the opportunity, has the makings of summer buzz.
But we’re now entering into a different stratosphere here. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer shared recently that the Chiefs “see some similarities to Stefon Diggs in physical profile and play style”.

That’s a strong statement; and these are obviously ambitious waters we’re treading into. And, if the noise gets loud enough, the high expectations could take on a life of their own. After all, this is a fifth-round rookie wide receiver. Diggs was once that, too — so I see where the talking point is coming from. And, to be fair, Breer, nor what he quoted the Chiefs as thinking, suggest that Kansas City expects Stefon Diggs right now.
That being said, you all know how this works. The headline spreads, then the social media captions start rolling. And next thing you know, the fanbase is expecting him to explode this season. Allen very well may end up becoming lightning in a bottle for Kansas City. The Chiefs’ wide receiver room has been searching for a true separator, and if Allen is flashing the kind of traits that remind the organization of Diggs, there’s reason to believe he could carve out a real role in the offense sooner than later.
Even if it isn’t prime “Stefon Diggs”.
