Highly anticipated Vikings acquisition may have just become the latest victim in MetLife turf controversy
Once you get into live preseason games, injuries are more likely to occur, and the Minnesota Vikings had their first.
The first preseason game for the Minnesota Vikings is underway, and they already have their first major injury. Safety Jamal Adams had been playing well throughout the game, and ahd impressed during training camp. Unfortunately, he suffered a non-contact injury that looked to impact his knee.
If you look at the middle of the screen, Adams (No. 32) is working to keep up with his responsibility, and ends up collapsing to the turf.

The Adams injury wasn’t initially caught by the broadcast team, as Malachi Fields scored a touchdown on the play, but they did inform everyone that he got hurt and was carted off. It wasn’t just that he was carted off; many players and coaches were seen visibly distraught and praying over him.
It’s a brutal situation for the Vikings to be in, and the second consecutive preseason opener where they had a veteran go down with an injury. Last August, Rondale Moore suffered a serious knee injury in the first quarter and missed the entire season.
There will be many who use this as another call to action about playing on field turf instead of natural grass. MetLife Stadium is already known for having a poor field surface, and it could be a serious contributing factor to the injury. Will there be more outrage about the turf after the game? It gained a lot of steam after the World Cup, and it could become stronger now.
Adams had looked pretty good during camp, where he was showcasing the ability to play both linebacker and safety, which was a huge asset for Brian Flores. He loves having versatile players on the back end, and it’s tough to the Vikings’ depth to have this kind of loss.
