A.J. Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles are back in the same building for joint practices, and the biggest storyline has nothing to do with what’s happening on the field. When Eagles media caught up with Brown, the former Philadelphia wide receiver admitted he has not spoken to Jalen Hurts at all since being traded. That revelation alone indicates how things ended between these two.

Brown tried to put the Philly chapter behind him, answering a few questions before shutting the door the way he always does. He said he wasn’t going to keep talking about it. Classic A.J. fashion. He wants to spew these little messages, drop a cryptic quote here and there, and then when you really pinpoint him on something, he pulls back. “Leave me alone, I’m going to disappear from the media, and this is all I’m going to give you.” We’ve seen this movie before.

The Hurts question was the big one

When asked if he would talk to Hurts during these joint practices, Brown said he would if the opportunity comes up. Not exactly a guy who’s rushing to clear the air. It doesn’t seem like it’s pressing or something he feels he needs to do. And he said it’s all love between him and his former team.

I mean, it’s easy for A.J. to say that, right? You win a Super Bowl, you admit you didn’t feel fulfilled, and then when the team was 4-0, you’re complaining about how many touches you’re getting. He was part of derailing that season.

So it’s easy for Brown to say he went back to his childhood team, all is good in the world, he’s going to get 15 catches per game minimum, and he’s going to end up in the Hall of Fame one day. But Eagles fans still have a bit of this fury at A.J. Brown. There is still some tension, and I think something really bad happened between Brown and Hurts.

Something of substance went wrong

Maybe their relationship just dwindled over time, but there had to be something deeper. Because think about when Brown was traded to the Eagles. These guys were on FaceTime, all smiles. Hurts is the godfather of A.J. Brown’s kids. They had a genuinely strong relationship off the field, and something derailed it.

I didn’t anticipate Brown saying anything new or groundbreaking about the situation, but the fact that these two still have not spoken is very eye-opening. The silence says more than any press conference answer ever could.
