‘This is it’ – Former LSU QB Joe Burrow just dropped some comments that have fans in Ohio feeling uneasy
Former LSU Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow didn’t hold back on Thursday while speaking to reporters about the 2026 NFL season.
Former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is feeling the urgency.
And he wants every one of his Cincinnati Bengals teammates to feel it, too.
Believe it or not, Burrow is entering his seventh season in the NFL. It feels like just yesterday he was leading the greatest college football team of all time to a win over Clemson in the National Championship game. But really, that was a lifetime ago (everything pre-Covid feels like a lifetime ago at this point).
Burrow went to the Super Bowl in his second season in the NFL, but the Bengals came up short against the Los Angeles Rams. He hasn’t been back, mostly because of injuries, but also because the Bengals just haven’t played well enough as a team.
So for Burrow, who will somehow turn 30 in December, he feels like it’s now or never for Cincinnati.
“I’m trying to put it out into the world,” said Burrow on Thursday of his now or never championship mindset. “I’m trying to manifest it. I’m trying to show our guys the urgency that I have and that I want us to have as an organization to go and make it happen.
“You can keep pushing it down the road, or you can talk about it now and say this is the year. And I’m tired of saying next year, next year, next year. This is it. Your life is too short to keep pushing things down the road. I’m trying to instill some urgency and some intensity in everybody to go be great every day and to try to go make it happen.”
“That’s how I’m treating it,” added Burrow when asked if it’s now or never.
How should Joe Burrow’s comments be interpreted by Bengals fans?
There are plenty of Bengals fans who are interpreting Burrow’s comments as a message to the organization that if it doesn’t happen this year in Cincinnati, or at least come very close to happening, then he’s going to look for a way out.
I understand how some Cincy fans see it that way. And maybe that’s how this ends up playing out. But I don’t necessarily think that was the intent of Burrow’s messaging on Thursday.
I’m taking him at his word — I think he’s just trying to instill some urgency in his teammates and everyone else in the organization. I don’t think Burrow is thinking about his future beyond this year at all right now. I believe he’s laser focused on trying to win a Super Bowl with this team.
If the wheels fall off and the Bengals miss the playoffs, maybe Burrow decides he wants to play somewhere else. But I don’t think that’s something he’s already decided. I truly believe he’s locked in on winning a championship right now.
But again, I fully get the concern from Bengals fans. The comments certainly felt a bit ominous…
