Tyson Bagent sends a message all Bears fans will love to hear going into the preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans
Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent just shared an injury update that adds optimism for him to return to action in the preseason finale.
The Chicago Bears have one last preseason game remaining later this week against the Tennessee Titans before the page turns and the team can start getting prepared for the Week 1 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
However, there’s still a big week ahead as the Bears look to finalize the 53-man roster and evaluate the players they currently have in the building. That process picks back up during Tuesday’s practice and will really heat up in the joint practice leading up to Saturday’s preseason finale.
Speaking of which, the Bears just got good news that could play a significant role in the team’s plans at the quarterback position before going up against the Titans.
Chicago Bears backup QB Tyson Bagent feeling great after hamstring injury
During the team’s preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns, backup quarterback Tyson Bagent suffered a hamstring injury after getting the start. The injury forced Bagent to miss the following week, including the joint practice and preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In his place, head coach Ben Johnson opted to start Caleb Williams for one drive before turning the keys over to veteran Case Keenum and eventually it over to undrafted rookie Miller Moss in the 9-27 loss. Going into the final week of the preseason, though, Bagent offered some optimistic news about his potential availability.
“I’m doing great,” Bagent said Monday evening on 104.3 The Score. “I am ready to go. I’ll be practicing tomorrow so everything is all good. Everything’s good, everything’s great.”
For how competitive Bagent is, this is great news and bodes well for his chances of seeing some action later this week after sitting out a game.
“It was weird, little bit miserable,” Bagent added. “Meetings and stuff happening and you’re not able to be present. But, the training staff did a great job getting me right and now we’re ready to get back on right where we left off.”
Another opportunity awaits Tyson Bagent to entice trade interest for a starting opportunity
The last time we saw Bagent in action in the preseason opener, he had a decent showing completing 13 of 22 passes for 169 yards with one touchdown and one interception. There was plenty Bagent would like to have back from that tape and getting this opportunity to go out there again on Saturday will be huge to correct some of those mistakes.
Every preseason opportunity is huge for Bagent. Once we get to the regular season, the only time you’d ideally want to see him on the field is in a blowout win situation. That’s the reality for a backup standing by during the regular season. But for Bagent specifically, who believes he can be a starting quarterback in this league, another preseason game will give him the opportunity to show that talent off to the other 31 teams.
“I just think about it like I am the starter,” Bagent explained. “Which is how you have to think about it. If you think about anything less than that, you’re probably not going to be as prepared as you would have been if you had that thought process. Just trying to convince myself mentally that I am 100 percent going to play. Realistically speaking, I am one play away. So, trying to stay as sharp as we can because the Chicago Bears, we got things we want to accomplish this year and I don’t want us hitting any bumps in the road because I’m in the game. I’m looking to go in and be full steam ahead.”
Bears fans should want to see Bagent ball out in this game against the Titans and during the joint practice later this week. You don’t know how many more games he’ll be in a Bears uniform because sooner or later, another team is going to give him the starting opportunity he deserves.
