The Miami Dolphins should have one former top-75 pick on their radar as roster cuts approach
There could be another wide receiver from the 2023 NFL Draft available for the Miami Dolphins after Kayshon Boutte got shipped to Houston.
The AFC East saw a wide receiver trade come to life on Monday, when the Miami Dolphins‘ rivals in New England shipped third-year wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans in a deal.
Miami, to their credit, got their own deal done with the Patriots earlier this summer when they conducted a pick swap to acquire offensive lineman Caedan Wallace. But with the questions that still surround quarterback Malik Willis’ receiving group, the idea of another wide receiver in the fray still sounds nice. The question now, with Boutte off to Houston, is what other options may be on the table. The 2023 NFL Draft class might be a great place to look. Here is an additional wide receiver who entered the league in 2023 and could be a possible trade target for Miami ahead of roster cuts.
The next possible trade target for the Miami Dolphins could be tied to the most recent to get moved
It wasn’t all that long ago that Cleveland Browns wide receiver Cedric Tillman appeared to be a player on the upswing. The Browns drafted Tillman 74th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. That spring, he’d run a 4.54s 40-yard dash as a 6-foot-3, 215 pound wide receiver. Tillman posted 334 yards and three scores in 2024 with the Browns, while playing on an offense that was ranked dead last in the league in scoring offense.
He was a potential asset for the long haul. Then 2025 happened. Tillman was less productive and less efficient in more games played. By the spring of 2026? With Tillman in a contract year, the Browns double-dipped at wide receiver in the first two rounds — securing KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston for head coach Todd Monken. The writing seems to be on the wall.
Tillman missed the team’s first two preseason games this month. But he returned to practice this week. The numbers game at wide receiver will be tough to overcome. The Browns have Jerry Jeudy, their rookie combination, Isaiah Bond, and possibly Tylan Wallace all standing in his way.
What’s the cost?
So what’s the trade value for Tillman? Given that he’s in a contract year, he should be considered a less valuable trade option than Caedan Wallace. The new Dolphins lineman had two years remaining on his contract when the Dolphins acquired him. I’d venture to say a future 7th-round draft choice could be enough to get a deal done. Or perhaps all teams, including Miami, would simply take their chances on the waiver wire.
Either way, Tillman could be a name to watch. The Dolphins have gravitated towards size at wide receiver and Tillman has a vertical component to his game going back to his time in college with the Tennessee Volunteers. There could be a fit here. If, of course, the Browns make him available.
