Notre Dame football has a primetime chance to impress another elite recruit at the most important moment of 2026
Notre Dame football is set to host arguably the best recruit in the 2028 class. The Miami matchup just got even more important.
The 2028 recruiting class features one of the most dominant defensive prospects in recent cycles, and Notre Dame football is firmly in the mix.
Five-star Louisville (Ky.) Christian Academy defensive lineman Kellan Hall has an argument as the best overall player in the 2028 class on the 247 Sports Composite ranking. Hall currently ranks as the No. 2 overall player, the No. 1 defensive lineman, and the No. 1 player from the state of Kentucky.
A long list of impressive suitors have already been pushing hard for the 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive lineman, and this upcoming season is going to present massive opportunities for several of those schools to make their case.
That includes head coach Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame program, who will host Hall for a game day visit on Nov. 7 when the Fighting Irish take on the Miami Hurricanes. Hall’s fall schedule is packed with trips to some of the finest programs in college football.
He will also head to Oregon on Sept. 5, Kentucky on Sept. 12, Oklahoma on Sept. 19, Georgia on Sept. 26, Texas A&M on Oct. 3, Ohio State on Oct. 10, Michigan on Oct. 17, Texas on Oct. 31, and Tennessee on Nov. 21. That will conclude an impressive tour of elite programs across the country.
Where things stand for Notre Dame
From everything I have gathered, Notre Dame has a fighting chance for Hall, although the Irish are far from the perceived leader. There is a lot of Oklahoma conversation around Hall in terms of who might be leading the pack right now.
This is a recruitment that is far from done, though. Hall and his family have every intention of letting this process play out, so I don’t see any decisions being made anytime soon.
Those game day visits truly will go a long way toward determining where the five-star defender ends up. Hall has spoken well of the Fighting Irish so far through the process, and getting him on campus for a primetime matchup against Miami is a huge opportunity. Notre Dame will have the chance to showcase exactly how Hall fits with the program and what the Fighting Irish can provide on the biggest stage.
The demand for Hall is incredibly high, so Notre Dame needs to be ready for a fight. Some of his top offers currently include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida State, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, Missouri, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, SMU, Northwestern, and Stanford, among several others.
Kellan Hall’s recruiting background
Hall is fresh off a dynamic sophomore year for Christian Academy of Louisville, where he helped lead the team to a 15-0 record and a state championship. The first-team All-District and All-State defender was also named the 3A Lineman of the Year. In just 11 games, Hall recorded 53 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. He is an elite defender with early-round upside if he is developed properly.
Many will not give Notre Dame much of a chance with a prospect of this caliber, but the Irish staff has done a strong job building a relationship with Hall. That includes defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, who continues to recruit at a high level along the defensive front. At this point, I have decided to stop doubting Notre Dame, even with the most elite of elite defensive prospects.
I believe Notre Dame will have a shot with Hall, but they need to continue pursuing him and pushing hard over the next few months. Most importantly, they need to knock that game day visit out of the park to have a chance in the end.
