The Kansas City Chiefs have broken their preseason losing streak in Week 3 of the 2026 NFL preseason, with a 9-9 tie against the Seattle Seahawks.

After three exhibition games, we’ve been able to learn a lot about the 90-man offseason roster. This was the last chance for players to impress the coaching staff and make their case for the 53-man roster. After some highlights and lowlights, Brett Veach has plenty to consider. Remember, 53-man roster cuts are coming up on Sunday, Aug. 30.

With all of that said, here’s a breakdown of the winners and losers of the Chiefs’ preseason Week 3 game vs. the Seahawks.

Winners

R Mason Thomas

Thomas has had one of the more impressive preseason performances among Chiefs rookies. He capped it off in preseason Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks with one of his best rushes yet. A wide-9 look for Thomas resulted in a sack-fumble on Seahawks QB Jalen Milroe. Thomas just ran the arc and pummeled the quarterback on the blind side. He got another pressure, forcing an early throw that Emmanuel Ogbah tipped. Thomas even nearly had a blocked punt. The Chiefs haven’t had this type of explosive play from an edge rusher in a long time, and Brett Veach knows it: “Super athletic and twitchy, that’s an element we were missing the last three years.”

Brashard Smith

Smith played a lot of snaps in preseason Week 3 against the Seahawks, and rewarded the coaching staff with a big performance. He had 16 carries for 72 yards, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. It was really his most impressive performance as a running back. He also had a 57-yard kick return, which might be the best kick return this team has seen since the new kickoff rules took effect. It just feels like things are really starting to click for the wide-receiver-turned-running-back in his second season as a professional.

Marcus Harris

Harris has been flying under the radar for the Chiefs. However, he had the type of standout performance on Friday that usually results in a 53-man roster spot. He had the most tackles on defense with six, and was the only interior defensive lineman to notch a tackle for loss, and he notched three of them. It started with a three-yard backfield takedown of RB Jacardia Wright. He also had back-to-back TFLs to help force the tie. His first step and get-off might be one of the quickest for Kansas City, and he’s proven to be a handful in the run game as well. With Omarr Norman-Lott likely headed for the Reserve/PUP, Harris could be a good fill-in.

Andrew Armstrong

It felt like Armstrong needed a standout receiving performance heading into this game, and he delivered. Armstrong finished the day going 5-of-8 receiving for 54 yards. He averaged 10.8 yards per reception and had the longest catch of the day at 20 yards. He made a really nice 15-yard grab at the sideline before halftime that gave the team a chance to put points on the board. Albeit a chance that the team squandered. Combine all of that with his consistent performance as a blocker, and I’m not sure how you keep this kid off the roster.

Kristian Fulton

Fulton has been mostly quiet this preseason, but he had the type of play on Friday that you like to see in the final week of the preseason. He had a pass breakup that probably should’ve been an interception. He just got his head turned a second too late for it to be a pick. Still, this play is the perfect thing for the Chiefs if they try to dangle Fulton in a trade. It’s also reassuring if they choose to keep him after Melvin Smith Jr. went down with a rib injury.

Losers

Harrison Butker

At the beginning of the preseason, it felt like Butker had put the yips behind him. That doesn’t appear to be the case, though. Butker missed his third kick of the preseason on Friday against the Seahawks. It was a 58-yard attempt, which isn’t a walk in the park. It was also typical Arrowhead Stadium swirling wind conditions. It’d be less concerning if it weren’t the second consecutive week with a miss. Last week he missed a PAT and a 43-yard field goal. The Chiefs got him a layup in the fourth quarter with a 19-yard field goal. Still, it’s hard to say that there’s complete confidence in Butker heading into Week 1.

Ethan Driskell

Driskell was relegated to third-team offensive snaps at tackle on Friday. Jaylon Moore, Kahlil Benson, Chu Godrick, and Esa Pole each played before Driskell saw the field. In the same week the Chiefs traded for offensive lineman Joshua Ezeudu, other guys elevated their play. Driskell looked outmatched in the fourth quarter at times. It feels like the writing might be on the wall for Driskell’s 53-man roster chances this season.

Nikko Remigio

I don’t know how you can possibly come out of this game saying that Remigio should make the 53-man roster. He’s not explosive or dynamic as a return specialist. Sure, he doesn’t make many mistakes, but he needs near-perfect conditions to succeed. Meanwhile, Brashard Smith and Jacob De Jesus both showed their explosion in the return game. Smith had a 51-yard kick return. De Jesus had a 20-yard punt return. If Remigio makes it, it’s certainly not on preseason merits.
