Minnesota Vikings get brutal injury news ahead of 2026 season, and it compounds an awful problem
The Minnesota Vikings already had a major need at edge rusher, and it just got a lot worse for Brian Flores.
The edge rusher position is one of the worst for the Minnesota Vikings right now, and it got worse on Sunday. Reports surfaced that second-year edge rusher Tyler Batty suffered a torn ACL against the Denver Broncos and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve.
It’s a difficult blow for the Vikings, as they are now set to have another issue at edge rusher.
Tyler Batty suffered season-ending torn ACL
It’s a tough blow for the Vikings, especially with the lack of depth at the position. Batty was set to be the EDGE3 this season, depending on how you viewed Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins He was setting the edge well and making things happen in the run game
Without Batty, the Vikings now have just Bo Richter and Chaz Chambliss as depth at the position. It’s not a great position for the Vikings to be in, especially with how Brian Flores’ defense uses a lot of unique elements of pressure.
The real question here is simple: what will the Vikings do at the position to fortify it? There are still players out there who can make an impact. Haason Reddick, Kyle Van Noy, Joey Bosa, and Leonard Floyd are all still on the open market, and having one of them to play 400-500 snaps will make a big difference for the defense.
Will they end up going out and getting one of those guys? Only time will give us that answer, but make no mistake about it: they need to do something and fast.
