The Cleveland Browns have an interesting QB room to say the least and another addition could make some sense that just came about.
The Cleveland Browns had to make several roster moves to trim down to 53 players ahead of Sunday’s deadline, and the quarterback position was one of the most notable areas of maneuvering.
Cleveland placed Dillon Gabriel on the injured reserve, keeping all four quarterbacks on the books while kicking the can down the road. Now, another quarterback option may have fallen into the Browns’ laps if they desire.
Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton was waived Monday in a move that caught many in the Cowboys media space off guard. Cleveland holds the No. 6 spot on the waiver wire order, giving the Browns a real shot at claiming Milton if they choose to do so.
Joe Milton’s arm talent is undeniable and it would be interesting in Cleveland
Milton is a quarterback with a cannon of an arm who can get the ball to any point on the field. His problem has always been accuracy. The sixth-round pick of the 2024 NFL Draft has played in five games across his NFL career, including four games for Dallas last season. He completed 15-of-24 passes for 183 yards, one touchdown pass, and two interceptions in those appearances.
Milton had a solid camp for the Cowboys, which makes the decision to part ways with him all the more surprising. Dallas opted to keep Sam Howell as the backup to Dak Prescott over Milton, a move that raised eyebrows given the ceilings of the two.
What a Joe Milton claim would mean for Cleveland’s roster
If Cleveland were to bring Milton in, the Browns would face an interesting choice. They could either carry four quarterbacks on the active roster or determine that Milton holds more value than Shedeur Sanders or Taylen Green at this stage. Neither scenario is out of the realm of possibilities.
Deshaun Watson remains locked in for 2026, Gabriel is stashed on injured reserve through at least the fourth game of the season, and Sanders and Green are still finding their footing in the league. The Browns don’t have a long-term answer at the position, and until they do, they’ll continue searching for one anyway they can.
Taking as many dart throws at the quarterback position as you can until you fix it isn’t the worst approach, and the Browns have another decision to make here. Cleveland could land Milton if they place a claim.
