An SEC defensive coordinator made a comment about LSU this week that Tigers fans aren’t happy about.

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman polled college football coaches around the country about the upcoming season.

Seven of 18 coaches who responded said that LSU is the most overhyped team in the nation.

An anonymous SEC defensive coordinator who labeled the Tigers as overhyped told Feldman that he could see LSU “imploding” this fall.

“I think it’ll be hard for them to build team chemistry. I could see them imploding,” said the SEC defensive coordinator of LSU.

A Mountain West coach added that he thinks LSU has too many distractions right now.

“I think all these things that are happening around LSU right now are gonna end up being too much of a distraction,” said the Mountain West coach.

Tigers fans aren’t happy about those comments, but I don’t think they’re unfair. I think there’s a scenario where LSU is playing for a national championship, and I also think there’s a scenario where this thing goes sideways for Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin is undoubtedly a good football coach. But he’s also a lightning rod for controversy. And most of the controversy that surrounds him is self-created and completely avoidable. It’s who he’s always been, and I doubt that’s changing anytime soon.

There’s a lot of pressure on Kiffin this season, so he better hope it doesn’t fall apart on him. Because if it does, LSU fans may end up joining Raiders fans, Tennessee fans, USC fans, Alabama fans, and Ole Miss fans on the other side of the Kiffin fence.
