The LSU job is undoubtedly one of the best jobs in college football (there’s a strong argument that it’s the best, and I tend to agree).

Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin would be wise to stick around in Baton Rouge as long as LSU will have him.

Kiffin, though, has a history of leaving jobs for what, in his mind, is the next best thing.

But despite his nomadic ways, there are only two jobs I could ever see pulling him away from LSU: Alabama or the NFL.

Now, I’m sure there are Tigers fans screaming that LSU is a better job than Alabama. And I’m with you. But this is Kiffin we’re talking about — he’s a wild card. And he has history in Tuscaloosa.

But that history is why LSU fans can rest easy at night.

An excerpt (via Vanity Fair) from John Talty’s upcoming book, Lane Being Lane: The Story of Lane Kiffin, explains why Kiffin will never be the head coach at Alabama.

Kiffin rubbed too many important people the wrong way with the reckless way he lived during his time as the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator (2014-2016).

“You’ve got to keep Lane away from the girls that are in college,” said Nick Saban, according to one former coach. “Just keep him away from the sorority girls. Make sure they’ve graduated college or are working a job.”

“True or not, those rumors hurt his ability to become a head coach again,” wrote Talty. “Multiple Alabama sources insisted that Kiffin’s behavior during his time in Tuscaloosa precluded him from ever succeeding Nick Saban and becoming the Crimson Tide’s head coach. He had upset too many important people, and the stories were too well-known for it to be palatable for those in power.”

Lane has always been Lane. If you’re expecting him to change, well, let me know how it works out.

The best thing LSU fans can do is enjoy the good when it comes — I think there’s a decent chance Kiffin wins a national championship in Baton Rouge — and when it inevitably comes crashing down dramatically, just let him go and move on to the next coach.
