Saquon Barkley, Vic Fangio’s defense, and the NFC East race headline the Philadelphia Eagles’ biggest storylines heading into the 2026 NFL season. The Eagles enter this year with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, a retooled wide receiver room following the A.J. Brown saga, and a defensive coordinator who might be coaching his final season in Philadelphia. With all of that in mind, here are some regular bold predictions for the Eagles’ 2026 campaign.

Saquon Barkley rushes for over 1,200 yards

Barkley topped 1,100 rushing yards last season during what was, by all accounts, a disaster offensively for the Eagles. Two years ago, he put together a historic campaign. Now, as he inches closer to 30, the conventional wisdom says running backs start to decline. But Barkley is different. The way he prepares, the way he takes care of his body, and the way he runs behind an offensive line that should be significantly healthier and better positioned this season all point to another massive year on the ground. If the Eagles commit to running the football and do it more effectively than they did last year, 1,200 yards feels like a floor, not a ceiling.

Vic Fangio leads the NFL’s No. 1 defense

This one might sound bold, but Fangio has earned the benefit of the doubt at this point. He has the golden formula. He knows how to prepare these guys, and the results speak for themselves. Go back to 2024. The Eagles were first in the NFL in yards allowed per game and put together a historic performance in the Super Bowl.

Now go back to 2022. They were second in the league in yards allowed and had a historic season up front in terms of sacks. After a collapse last season, I think they follow the pattern again. They have the weapons in place and made good additions. There are still some questions at safety on the back end, but the corners are good enough, and Fangio is good enough. In what is most likely his final season in Philadelphia, I think Vic Fangio’s defense will be the best in the NFL once more.

The Eagles win the NFC East by 2 or more games

Look at the rest of the division. The Dallas Cowboys always get overhyped and never have the results to show for it. Washington might honestly finish last in the NFC East. A reporter a couple weeks ago said the Commanders had the worst joint practice showing anyone can ever remember. They have no protection for Jayden Daniels, and they keep trying to patch up holes created by aging veterans instead of getting younger and taking the time to retool. The New York Giants have injury concerns, a new coach, and a new system. I’m still not much of a believer in Jaxson Dart and all these new pieces in New York. The Eagles can separate themselves in this division as long as they handle their own business. Philadelphia’s biggest enemy will be itself. Simple as that.

Quinyon Mitchell gets 4 interceptions in the regular season

Now we get into the bold predictions. Mitchell has four interceptions in the postseason and zero in the regular season, which is one of the wilder splits you’ll see. But with Riq Woolen on the other side now, quarterbacks are going to have to pick and choose where they want to throw, and it’s not like they can just stay away from Quinyon. He’s been edging toward getting that regular season interception for a while. He’s been so close. I think he explodes this year with another All-Pro season and snags four picks. Give me four for Quinyon Mitchell.

Jalyx Hunt posts 11.5 sacks

Hunt was the Eagles’ breakout player in training camp this year, and he led the team in both sacks and interceptions last season, which is absolutely nuts. This is a guy who used to play safety in his early college years. You can drop him back into coverage. He is a multi-faceted weapon who can do a ton of different things. I think he becomes one of Vic Fangio’s favorite chess pieces this season and puts together a double-digit sack campaign. He’s going for a big payday after this year, and the rest of the NFL is going to know who Jalyx Hunt is. 11.5 sacks. Book it.

DeVonta Smith tops 1,500 receiving yards

All the pressure in the world is on DeVonta Smith this season, and I think he lives up to every bit of the hype. Everybody kept saying this offseason that the Eagles could trade A.J. Brown because Smith could have that Jaxon Smith-Njigba type of breakout year. Everybody knows how good he is.

He’s a legitimate No. 1 receiver who has been sitting in the shadows because of A.J., and he still goes for over 1,000 yards every single year. Granted that the Eagles’ offense looks competent, granted that it looks fluid, and granted that Jalen Hurts sticks with the game plan and targets Smitty significantly more than he targeted A.J. last season, I think Smith is going to show everyone why the Eagles were comfortable moving on from Brown. Over 1,500 receiving yards. He might even be an Offensive Player of the Year candidate. DeVonta Smith is about to have a monster season, and the Eagles are banking on exactly that.
