‘I’m sure he’s pissed off’ – Cowboys QB Dak Prescott drops strong words on Joe Milton getting released by Dallas
Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Joe Milton was released by the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week.
The Dallas Cowboys shocked everyone earlier this week when they released former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton just a day after including him on their initial 53-man roster.
Milton surprisingly cleared waivers and he was signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad a day later.
The former Vol played well during the preseason, so it was a bit of a surprise that another team didn’t take a chance on him.
Either way, Milton is back with Dallas, and Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott thinks he’s “pissed off.”
Dak Prescott shares thoughts on Joe Milton
Prescott talked with reporters this week and he made it clear that he’s happy Milton is back with the Cowboys.
“It means a lot (to have Milton back),” said Prescott. “Just me, personally, I thought he would’ve been picked up on waivers. Fortunately for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better — a guy that makes our team better. His spirit, just the way that he approaches the day…he’s a hell of a dude. He’s a hell of a competitor, and one of the best at throwing the ball, honestly, and just his talent. Just the way he’s jumped and progressed from year to year, I know what’s ahead of him. So, for me, it’s just about being the right leader and the right brother for him.
“I’m sure he’s pissed off, but he doesn’t allow that competition and him not getting what he wants to derail his overall growth and just the progression and the route trajectory that he’s ultimately on and just staying on that.”
Prescott is clearly a fan of Milton, but it’s worth pointing out that one of the biggest jobs of the No. 2 quarterback is to help the starter prepare. I think it’s fair to assume that if the battle was as close as Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer said it was between Sam Howell and Milton, Prescott would’ve had some say in who won the job.
I’m not saying it was Prescott’s fault that Milton was released, but I do think it’s possible that Dak wasn’t exactly banging on the table to keep Milton over Howell. Otherwise, I think that’s what would’ve happened.
