Jerry Jones contradicts Dallas Cowboys star Quinnen Williams after Week 2 win over Commanders
The Dallas Cowboys’ $106 million defender has been a big topic of conversation through the first two games of the season.
Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams has become a big topic of conversation in the Dallas Cowboys sphere. While he has played solid football through two weeks, it hasn’t been quite the level of play expected from a player who just signed a $106 million extension.
And to make matters more intriguing, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones contradicted Williams’ postgame comments during a radio appearance on Tuesday.
Disagreement exists on if Williams is banged up
Following the Cowboys’ win over the Commanders, Williams was asked about taking some plays off and he told reporters he was a “little banged up.”
He certainly didn’t sound too worried about it and Williams played the full game, but his comments shouldn’t go unnoticed given the inconsistencies on his film, which are rare for a player of his caliber.
Defensive line expert John Owning pointed out on social media that Williams’ play could suggest he’s dealing with something behind the scenes. Owning pointed out Williams was “catapulted off his spot” by the Commanders left tackle.
“He was also slow to get up on a few different occasions as well,” Owning added.
Williams’ postgame comments appeared to *kind of* confirm it. But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on air he is not banged up.
Jerry Jones denies Williams is banged up
During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones was directly asked about Williams’ health after being a little slow to get off the field a couple of times and being a little inconsistent.
“No, no he’s not [dealing with anything],” Jones said bluntly.
Now granted, Jones and Williams may simply be looking at being “banged up” as something with different meanings.
The Cowboys owner may be thinking along the lines of Williams’ availability, which doesn’t appear to be in question going into Week 3. Either way, him shutting down the notion of Williams dealing with anything is notable after the player just said he was, even if it was minor and short-term.
Perhaps something was indeed bothering Williams on Sunday and it’s worth keeping an eye on his practice participation as the Cowboys gear up to take on the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
For now, Jones isn’t worried about the defensive tackles.
“Both (Kenny Clark and Williams) are outstanding,” Jones said. “Williams is just one of the best players in the entire league. Period.”
Hopefully, he is as healthy as Jones says he is and Williams was just talking about being “banged up” for the day.
