The Miami Hurricanes have an enormous day on Saturday, with archrival Florida State coming to town for their annual clash. It’s obviously a big game for both programs, with the Hurricanes looking to stay near the top of the polls and the Seminoles looking for a massive win to validate keeping embattled head coach Mike Norvell around beyond this year.

And it’s as big of a weekend on the recruiting trail for Mario Cristobal’s team as well. It’s a who’s who of five-star, top 10-15 talent in attendance for the 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes. Included among them is Rivals No. 1 overall player WR Brysen Wright (Jacksonville; Mandarin), who Steve Wiltfong says Miami is near the top of his list in his latest update on Monday.

But Miami might actually might be in even stronger shape with another five star, 2028 No. 1 OT Maui Tonata from Orem, Utah. Wiltfong issued a prediction on Monday morning for the Canes to land their top offensive tackle prospect.

On3 Sports/Rivals recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong predicts Miami Hurricanes to land 2028 No. 1 OT Maui Tonata

Tonata is the No. 1 offensive tackle, No. 1 player in the state of Utah, and the No. 13 overall player in the 2028 recruiting cycle per On3 Sports/Rivals’ industry rankings. The 6-5, 315-pound lineman holds offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas A&M, Nebraska, BYU, and a slew of others.

Tonata took a visit to Nebraska in March and then later to Miami in mid-June of this year. This will be his second visit to Miami, which clearly gives the Hurricanes a big edge early in his recruitment.

We’ll find out this weekend if perhaps Cristobal can take an even bigger step in his recruitment with an impressive performance by the Hurricanes and a memorable visit. And perhaps Miami could land a massive piece — literally and figuratively — to its 2028 class in the process.
