Miami Hurricanes lose yet another starter in the wake of Clemson win, and it’s one they had seemed to have dodged a bullet on
The Canes’ list of the walking wounded just added another days after defeating the Tigers
The Miami Hurricanes’ injury woes this year are beyond incredible, and we’re not even to the halfway point of the 2026 season yet.
The Hurricanes’ secondary, in particular, has been ravaged by injury, as has Miami’s defensive line and running back room.
You can now add offensive line to that list, and it’s a player that, at first glance had appeared to skirt major trouble in the Hurricanes’ 41-13 win over the Clemson Tigers last Saturday.
OL Max Buchanan went down with a lower body injury in the first half of the game. The trainers came on the field and appeared to have been pivoting his knee before helping him up and off the field. Encouragingly, Buchanan returned to the game and finished it out. As such, it appeared perhaps the Canes’ dodged trouble.
Not the case, as it turns out. Buchanan posted a picture of him on Twitter (X) on Wednesday morning in a hospital bed and gown, telling everyone he’ll “be back”.
Miami appears set to be without starting guard Max Buchanan based on recent social media post
Buchanan and the interior of the offensive line took a big step forward last weekend in Clemson. After some relative struggles on the interior as a unit, the group was physical and helped reestablish that dominant Miami running attack and second half surge that we saw so often from the Hurricanes in 2025.
As such, it’s a big blow for the Hurricanes just days after a win that also saw defensive lineman Marquise Lightfoot leave the Clemson game with an injury and not return. With Miami on a bye week, there won’t be an update on the status of Buchanan, Lightfoot, and others until Monday, when Mario Cristobal will have his weekly spot on the “The Joe Rose Show” on 104.3 am and hold his weekly press conference.
We’ll perhaps find out then just how long the Hurricanes will be without their talented sophomore guard.
