The Miami Dolphins are reportedly welcoming another new face to their ownership group and breaking records as a result
One percent minority stake in the Miami Dolphins franchise was recently sold — and a new deal for another share of the business has been reported.
The Miami Dolphins have had a season full of change. That goes for both on and off the football field.
The Dolphins’ on-field change is obvious. Some of their off-field changes have been, too. But amid a new CEO, a new general manager, and a new head coach, the Dolphins are reportedly welcoming someone else new into their ranks this fall. A new minority owner.
Sports Business Journal reports Miami Dolphins have agreed on a sale of 2.1% of business

“Chilean billionaire financier Jean Eric Salata has a deal in place to buy 2.1% of the Dolphins and its affiliated businesses from principal owner Stephen Ross, sources said. The valuation is slightly above the $12.5 billion figure behind Ross’ last equity sale to Xiaomi co-founder Lin Bin in March, making it a new high-water mark for NFL minority stakes.”

The Dolphins organization has been busy on this front. It marks the fourth overall transaction involving minority shares of the Dolphins & the overall Ross entertainment empire in South Florida. 10% was sold off to Ares Management and another 3% to a pair of investors late in 2024. Then, earlier this year, the Dolphins agreed on a sale for 1% equity to Lin Bin in March. That sale was approved at this spring’s owners meeting.
Jean Eric Salata, the newest investor, will bring the total equity in the franchise sold over the past 2 years to over 16%. This sale, per SBJ, is expected to be approved next week. And when it happens, it will set a new record for the highest franchise valuation in a minority transaction.
The entire sports complex and all of the affiliated events gives Miami a leg up in value proposition for potential investors. They’ve clearly been taking advantage of that over the past two years. And now they’re set to break their own record. Bin’s purchase set the previous mark for highest valuation on a minority sale.
