A former Miami Dolphins star just raised an uncomfortable question about quarterback Malik Willis
One former Miami Dolphins star just asked an uncomfortable question about new quarterback Malik Willis.
It’s probably fair to say that everyone knew this season was going to be a hard one for the Miami Dolphins. But yet here we are, after five weeks, asking all kinds of hard-hitting questions about the state of the team.
As is always the case in football, no one gets more of the brunt of the discourse than the starting quarterback. New starter Malik Willis has been off to a trying start. But it’s also come with the least experienced skill group in all of football. Throw in De’Von Achane’s season-ending injury and…yeah. It’s a work in progress. But even as Miami tries to work through the issues during their bye week, some are asking some heavy-hitting questions. That includes former Miami Dolphins star Jarvis Landry.
Former Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry weighs in on the start of Malik Willis’ tenure at quarterback
“I will say this, because I’m here in Miami. I got a lot of Miami Dolphins friends and homies that watch the game. And I’m always getting text messages about how they feel about the team, or people asking me how I feel about the team. And I’ll say this. Malik Willis, when we talked to you (this summer), I love your demeanor. I love your energy. But when I watch you play now, and I think about our conversation and you just kind of being like chill and relaxed…and I feel like that’s not the kind of persona at that quarterback position with a team like you guys have, to have.”

At the end of the day, these things are only potential problems because the Dolphins aren’t winning and Willis isn’t producing numbers that would insinuate winning. It doesn’t take much of a Miami Dolphins history lesson to remember how endearing Mike McDaniel’s personality was when the Dolphins were winning. An 8-9 season later and a slow start in 2025? Yeah…
Willis shouldn’t be expected to change. His ability to stay even-keeled will likely be a valuable asset as the Dolphins continue to endure their growing pains. He just needs to start playing better. And getting more help from those around him to boost the numbers. Three turnovers against the Bengals and less than 100 yards passing against the Vikings in back-to-back weeks is enough to craft angst from any fanbase.
So with a trip to New Jersey looming after the bye, let’s see if Willis is able to get things rolling. If so, I’d be willing to bet the questions from all parties will cool down on the little things about Willis. If not? Well, let’s hope we don’t have to find out.
