Alabama loses more than just the game against Tennessee after an alarming injury update from head coach Kalen DeBoer
The Alabama Crimson Tide left Neyland Stadium with a second straight loss on Saturday, and the trip to Knoxville may have cost them far more than a win with Texas A&M up next.
Well, just when you thought it couldn’t get much worse for the Alabama Crimson Tide, it did. Alabama didn’t just lose to the Tennessee Volunteers in a rough afternoon at Neyland Stadium. The Tide may have lost two more integral pieces in the process, and Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer’s injury update after the game didn’t offer much clarity.
Before the game, ESPN’s Katie George reported that wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams had his knee scoped for an ongoing meniscus injury and will miss a few weeks. The earliest Alabama could expect him back would be after the bye week, against LSU. We’ll see.
Kalen DeBoer gives update on Zabien Brown and EJ Crowell
Two more injuries hit Saturday. Star cornerback Zabien Brown and freshman running back EJ Crowell both went down against the Vols and did not return.
DeBoer addressed both after the game in his postgame presser:
“Both of them, both Zabien and E, have lower extremity injuries. We’ll just work through it here this week.”
That’s all we have for now. I expect more information to come out Monday, and the picture should get clearer once the availability report drops Wednesday.
Alabama is feeling the attrition of the season
This Crimson Tide team is banged up across the board. Alabama is without its starting center, Racin Delgatty. Coleman-Williams, the team’s star wide receiver, is out. The Tide are still missing key depth and starters like Terrance Green on defense.
Now Brown is hurt. If Crowell can’t go, Alabama will lean on Trae’shawn Brown and Daniel Hill in the backfield.
This team is going through it. The Tide have lost two in a row, and we’re about to find out what this Alabama team really looks like.
DeBoer also updated where Delgatty stands after the game, and the news wasn’t great:
“We’ll see where Racin is at, but Mal [Waldrep], that is— will certainly continue to take a lot of snaps there at center and do what he does.”
To be fair to Waldrep, he held up well in pass protection. According to PFF, he didn’t allow a pressure or a sack against Tennessee. I thought he had a good game, and we’ll break it all down on film. If Delgatty remains out, the Tide at least have some stability in the middle of the offensive line.
Texas A&M looms before a much-needed bye week
Still, these injuries are starting to pile up, and the timing could hardly be worse. Alabama has to get the job done against Texas A&M, reach the bye week, and get healthy.
From there, the Crimson Tide need to go on a run if they want to salvage the 2026 season. Right now, that starts with simply getting enough bodies back on the field.
