The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly expected to join the newly started NFC West arms race after Quenton Nelson lands in Seattle
It sounds like many expect the San Francisco 49ers to make a splash ahead of the 2026 NFL Trade Deadline.
Business just picked up in the NFC West. The Seattle Seahawks have landed the first blow ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline, acquiring Quenton Nelson for a 2027 3rd & a future 5th round draft pick. The San Francisco 49ers? They’re expected to be next.
On the heels of Nelson getting shipped out by the Colts, NFL insider Jordan Schultz has dropped a nugget that implicates the San Francisco 49ers. And by the tone of Schultz’ comment, it sounds like the 49ers are already working on a deal of their own. If that’s the case, it could be a matter of “when”, not “if” for a 49ers splash.
The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly expect to “respond” after the Seattle Seahawks land Quenton Nelson in trade deadline deal
Buckle up! This sounds like it could get a bit bumpy. The San Francisco 49ers are obviously out to a strong start for the season but durability lingers as a threat to the good work the 49ers have put in thus far this season. And so, too, does Nelson’s arrival in the NFC West. His addition to the Seahawks offensive line gives Seattle some major punch power to run behind and could help Seattle turn the tide after a lukewarm start.
Could this be a potential wide receiver, such as Colts WR Josh Downs or Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr? What about a reunion with defensive tackle DeForest Buckner? Buckner has been a reported trade candidate for over a week now. He’s expected to garner interest and his addition would be a no-brainer for the 49ers up front. Heck, the team could, in theory, make multiple moves and really pour into this year’s group.
San Francisco has over $42.5 million in cap space according to Spotrac. The world is their oyster. Just about any roster transaction they want, they could theoretically have. It’s just a matter of available talent, need on the roster, and compensation. Based on what Shultz is saying, it sounds like the 49ers already have something in mind.
