The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled on special teams in 2026. But that shouldn’t shock anyone. They haven’t had the same elite special teams this franchise used to have in a long time. And Harrison Butker is a huge part of that. So KC signed Justin Tucker to the practice squad.

Yes, you read that right. It’s a bit shocking. But then again, it makes some sense. Butker had a terrible game against the Seattle Seahawks and has been pretty bad for over a season now.

Sure, this can all be weird, considering the fiasco with Tucker and Mahomes/Kelce a few years ago. You know, when Tucker was intentionally warming up where he wasn’t supposed to be, and then Kelce threw Tucker’s things? Yeah, it can get awkward. Not only that, but the Chiefs may face heat for bringing on Tucker and for the off-field situation he’s been accused of.

But, he’s one of the greatest kickers of all time. However, he hasn’t played since 2024. In that season, he went 22/30 on field goals, and 60/62 on extra points.

Harrison Butker was very bad against the Seattle Seahawks

Butker was 1/3 on the day, missing a 58-yarder that was way short, not even close, and a 45-yarder. As for the near 60-yarder, it would have been a bit different if he got the ball all the way there, but he wasn’t even close. And some will say, okay, that’s a near 60-yarder. His career high is 62.

As for the 45-yarder, the blocking didn’t look like it would hold up well. Regardless, he got the kick away, so it should’ve been good. That’s six points taken off the board, which could have made the game 13-9, and then we are talking about an entirely different game. Butker is 11/16 on the year and has missed one extra point. He has the most missed kicks in the NFL since last season started with 15.

“He’s off a bit, so got to fix it,” Andy Reid said on Sunday night.

And if he doesn’t fix it, the Chiefs will be ready for what’s next.
