Final score predictions for Ole Miss vs. Auburn: Can the Rebels bounce back and save their College Football Playoff hopes?
The Ole Miss Rebels are in a position to bounce back against an Auburn team that looked bad last week.
The Ole Miss Rebels lost to the Texas Longhorns last week. The loss does not help their College Football Playoff chances at all. In fact, they now have a 44% chance of making the postseason. A win over the Auburn Tigers on Saturday would move that to 53%, according to A to Z’s Simulator.
As for Auburn, they have a 1% chance to make it. And, with a win over Ole Miss, that jumps to just 7%. They then have to play Alabama in Week 13, too. This could be a great game with real implications. So, our experts broke it all down.
Final Score Predictions for Ole Miss vs. Auburn
Ole Miss 34, Auburn 16: Ryan Roberts, A to Z Notre Dame
Ole Miss takes care of business against Auburn with a 34-16 win, thanks largely to a monster performance from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. With Kewan Lacy sidelined, the Rebels needed someone to step up offensively, and Chambliss delivered. He makes plays with both his arm and his legs, keeping Auburn’s defense on its heels and helping Ole Miss avoid a major drop-off without one of its key offensive weapons. The Rebels find success through the air and do enough on the ground to keep the offense balanced, putting Auburn in a difficult spot for most of the afternoon.
Auburn’s offensive struggles continue as the Tigers struggle to put together consistent drives against an Ole Miss defense that takes advantage of their mistakes. The Tigers may find a few scoring chances, but they lack the consistency to make this a competitive second half. As Auburn’s offense stalls, Chambliss and the Rebels capitalize, gradually building a comfortable lead and putting the game out of reach. Ole Miss leaves with a 34-16 win, and Chambliss proves he can carry a significant portion of the offensive load even without Lacy in the lineup.
Ole Miss 35, Auburn 20: Rob Gregson, A to Z Alabama
After a big win over Georgia a couple of weeks ago, the Tigers came back to Earth against LSU last weekend, and things won’t get any easier against Ole Miss this week. The Rebels will look to bounce back after a loss to the Longhorns, with their playoff lives on the line. I don’t know how Auburn plans to contain Trinidad Chambliss, but he’ll be back and hungry to make plays after a down performance against Texas. An Auburn defense that has struggled for much of the season may be the perfect scenario for this team and Trinidad Chambliss. Give me Ole Miss by a wide margin.
Ole Miss 38, Auburn 24: Tyler Forness, A to Z Florida
I was high on Auburn after their upset win over Georgia and genuinely thought they’d beat the LSU Tigers. Well, they instead got smoked and got exposed as not ready to compete.
Ole Miss is now on life support in the playoff race, having lost to Florida and Texas, two other SEC foes who also have two losses. Trinidad Chambliss was very inconsistent against the Longhorns and will use this as a get-right game for the stretch run.
Ole Miss 31, Auburn 23: Craig Smith, A to Z Tennessee
In a game the Rebels cannot afford to lose to stay in the playoff picture, it starts with a bit of a scare. Byrum Brown and the Tigers get off to another strong road start, building an early lead and leaning on the ground game to shorten the game and keep Trinidad Chambliss on the sideline longer than Rebel fans want.
But the Rebels get things going quickly in the second half. As Sam Leavitt and the Tigers did from the jump last week against Auburn, Chambliss and his targets get in rhythm and push ahead in the third quarter. Auburn keeps it interesting until the end, but they can’t pull off the big road upset for the second time in as many tries.
