Tom Brady has found plenty of ways to stay involved in football and sports collectibles since walking away from the NFL. His latest project offers fans a chance to get closer to the memorabilia side of the game, with a little help from one of the most recognizable names in football history.

Brady’s CardVault Breaks is partnering with Fanatics Live for “The Great QB Chase“, a streaming trading card event built around the search for his own rookie card.

For Michigan football fans, it’s another opportunity to look back at the career of a former Wolverine who went from battling for playing time in Ann Arbor to becoming the most decorated quarterback in NFL history.

The livestream is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 2, at 3:00 p.m. ET. The main attraction is a box of 2000 Bowman Chrome cards, featuring 24 packs and an estimated value of over $10,000. Bidding on individual packs starts at just $1, giving collectors a chance to participate without buying the entire box.

There will be plenty beyond Brady’s rookie-card hunt, too. The event will feature additional card products from 2001, 2004, 2005, and 2024, with potential hits featuring quarterbacks such as Drew Brees, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Jordan Love, and Justin Herbert. The lineup also includes Fernando Mendoza and Jaxson Dart.

Those additional breaks start at $225, and the event promises $10,000 in memorabilia giveaways. You will need a Fanatics One account to enter giveaways using the built-in chat feature. Fans can also submit questions for Brady to answer during the livestream.

But for Michigan supporters, the most interesting part of the event might be the chance to revisit the early days of Brady’s football journey.

Brady Had to Earn His Place at Michigan Before Conquering the NFL

Brady’s career reminds us that NFL greatness doesn’t always come with a five-star recruiting profile or a high draft selection.

He arrived at Michigan in 1995 and redshirted his first season. He didn’t get playing time easily, and his college career included a competition with Drew Henson for the starting quarterback job. Brady eventually won the role and gave Michigan fans a glimpse of the toughness and composure that would define his professional career.

His performance against Alabama in the 2000 Orange Bowl remains one of the highlights of his time in Ann Arbor. Brady threw for 369 yards and four touchdowns as Michigan pulled out a dramatic 35-34 overtime victory.

That wasn’t the end of his story, of course. It was barely the beginning.

The New England Patriots selected Brady with the 199th pick in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. Six rounds of quarterbacks, running backs, and other prospects came off the board before New England took a chance on the Michigan product.

What followed is almost impossible to replicate. Brady won six Super Bowls with the Patriots, collected three NFL MVP awards, and became the face of one of the greatest dynasties the league has ever seen.

He then moved to Tampa Bay in 2020 and immediately delivered another championship. Brady led the Buccaneers to a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, earning his seventh Super Bowl ring. He finished his NFL career after the 2022 season with 89,214 regular-season passing yards and 649 touchdown passes.

For Michigan fans, it’s special to know that the player who achieved all of that once had to fight for his opportunity in the same program they follow every fall Saturday.

Tom Brady’s Michigan career

  • Tom Brady finished his Michigan career with a 20-5 record as a starter
  • He threw for 2,586 yards and 2o touchdowns during his senior season, including a 62.8% completion rate and six interceptions
  • Brady still holds Michigan records for completions (31), passing yards (375), and pass attempts (56) for a single game
  • Ended his career with a 35 to 34 comeback win over Alabama in the Orange Bowl, throwing for 369 yards and 4 touchdowns

Why the Card Hunt Is Worth Watching for Wolverines Fans

The 2000 Bowman Chrome box is the centerpiece of the event because it comes from Brady’s rookie-card era. Finding his card in a sealed box adds suspense, especially given the value collectors place on his early memorabilia.

The event runs through CardVault Breaks by Tom Brady, a collectibles business developed in partnership with the former quarterback. The format is known as a card break: participants buy individual spots or packs, then receive the cards assigned to them from the live opening.

For serious collectors, the draw is the chance to land a valuable card. For everyone else, watching Brady open a box from the beginning of his professional career offers a different kind of nostalgia.

It’s also an opportunity to hear directly from Brady. Michigan fans can submit questions about his development in Ann Arbor, his competition with Henson, his reaction to falling to the sixth round, or the moments that helped him become a seven-time champion.

Those stories are part of what makes Brady such a fascinating figure. His professional accomplishments are well documented, but his journey started with uncertainty, competition, and a college career that didn’t necessarily suggest he would become the NFL’s all-time leader in several major passing categories.

The livestream is scheduled to begin on November 2 at 3:00 p.m. ET. Fans interested in joining the card breaks, bidding on packs, or submitting questions should check the official Fanatics and CardVault event channels for participation details.

Michigan has produced plenty of outstanding football players, but few have built a legacy comparable to Brady’s. Whether you’re chasing a rare rookie card or simply want to hear him talk about his career, this event offers another reason to appreciate the journey that began in Ann Arbor.
