Packers receive a wave of good news before Panthers showdown, with both offense and defense getting a lift
All players listed as questionable for Green Bay will be active on Thursday.
The five players who were questionable to play are healthy enough and will play for the Green Bay Packers against the Carolina Panthers in Week 8 on “Thursday Night Football.” When the inactive list got released 90 minutes before the game, the only inactives due to injury were the players who had already been ruled out: right guard Travis Glover (knee), center Sean Rhyan (ankle), and off-ball linebacker Zaire Franklin (shin). The other inactives are healthy scratches.
Wide receiver Matthew Golden, cornerback Keisean Nixon, defensive tackles Devonte Wyatt and Anthony Campbell, and edge defender Brenton Cox Jr. are all active.
Packers confirm suspicion about Matthew Golden
As expected, wide receiver Matthew Golden is available and will play against the Panthers. The Year 2 weapon was listed as a non-participant in practice on Monday and Tuesday, but was limited on Wednesday. Ian Rapoport had already reported that Golden was trending in the right direction, and the fact that the Packers opted not to elevate any receiver from the practice squad for gameday was a solid indication about Golden’s availability.
Throughout his first seven games this season, Matthew Golden has generated 36 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensive pieces are healthy
Cornerback Keisean Nixon is also active. He suffered a shoulder injury during the week and was only added to the injury report hours ahead of the game, on Thursday, but that issue won’t keep him out of the game.
The Packers had also elevated Arron Mosby from the practice squad for gameday, but that was mostly due to his special teams contributions. Brenton Cox, questionable with a quadricep injury, is still active despite being limited as practice throughout the short week.
Defensive tackles Devonte Wyatt and Anthony Campbell are also active. Wyatt suffered an ankle injury during the Detroit Lions game and was even taken to the locker room, but returned to the game. Wyatt was listed as a DNP on Monday, but returned to practice on a limited basis on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Campbell missed some time earlier this season, but was already healthy enough in last week’s game against the Detroit Lions. He was listed as a DNP on Monday, even though that was just an estimation since the Packers didn’t practice.
