Kansas City Chiefs have to be kicking themselves even more after seeing a huge discrepancy in their loss to the Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos were more disciplined with penalties than the Kansas City Chiefs, and that was the difference in the game.
The Kansas City Chiefs should be 6-1 right now, but they are 5-2 while the Denver Broncos sit at 6-2. KC has now lost sole possession of first place in the AFC West, and it boils down to one major reason they lost. And it’s all their fault.
They had a chance to win the game. In fact, they should have. Do I think that was a false start by Jaylon Moore? No. I think he was checking protections. And Andy Reid feels the same way. But it was movement nonetheless. And that penalty, that undisciplined play, is why they lost. Add that it wasn’t just that; it was throughout the whole game, and KC is kicking themselves even more.
The Chiefs finished with 11 penalties for 105 yards. Denver had six penalties for 45 yards. That killed KC, all the way down to the second-to-last play. And on that play that the false start was called, KC actually scored—the ball was caught in the end zone. That would have been ball game.
Travis Kelce had a false start in the first quarter that led to a three-and-out. Fulton had an 18-yard penalty in the first that helped get Denver a field goal. Drue Tranquill had a 15-yard penalty on Denver’s first touchdown. And that’s just to name a few that ended up changing drives. These can’t happen, and they definitely cannot happen against better teams.
Chiefs now face an insane schedule
The Chiefs are now 5-2. But they play the Jets, Falcons, and Cardinals next. Those aren’t games anyone should worry about. They should go 3-0 in those games. But after those, they play the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and San Francisco 49ers in that order.
If KC doesn’t fix some of these major issues, like penalties, they could be in big trouble. Denver is a good football team, but their offensive issues make them very beatable. Unfortunately, the Chiefs’ issues outweighed their strengths on Sunday.
