Vols fans will be happy to see where Tennessee is projected to land in the first College Football Playoff rankings
The first College Football Playoff rankings of the season will be released on Tuesday evening.
Tennessee will find out where they land in the initial College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday evening.
The first playoff rankings of the season will be unveiled at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN.
Tennessee is 6-2 with four games remaining this season. The Vols know they need to win out in November to make the playoff.
For now, On3 predicts that Tennessee will be ranked No. 12 in the first playoff rankings, one spot above Alabama.
There are quite a few two-loss teams that are interchangeable in the rankings. Much of the chaos will get sorted out over the next few weeks as several of these teams are set to play each other (Alabama vs LSU this weekend, for example).
I wouldn’t be surprised if Alabama is actually ranked above Tennessee when the official rankings are revealed on Tuesday. The Vols have the head-to-head win, but the committee could rank Alabama higher since the Crimson Tide have a win over Kentucky (the Wildcats will likely be the second highest ranked SEC team). Alabama’s two losses (Georgia and Tennessee) are also “better” than Tennessee’s (Texas and South Carolina) — though neither has “bad losses”. It’ll be interesting to see how the committee actually ranks Tennessee and Alabama.
CBS Sports, for what it’s worth, projects that Tennessee will be ranked No. 13 with Alabama at No. 10.
