‘I said I would stop doing it’ – Former Georgia QB Aaron Murray predicts final score of massive Kentucky vs Tennessee game
The Tennessee Volunteers are set to host the Kentucky Wildcats in a massive SEC showdown in Neyland Stadium.
The Tennessee Vols are currently on the outside looking in at the 12-team College Football Playoff.
Tennessee, which is 6-2 with four games remaining, was ranked No. 13 in the initial CFP rankings.
The shocking part of Tennessee’s ranking isn’t that they were at No. 13 — we expected them to be in that range — it’s that they were somehow ranked eight spots behind a two-loss Alabama team that lost by 16 points to the Vols a couple of weeks ago.
Nearly everyone in college football media was shocked to see Alabama ranked that many spots ahead of the Vols.
“Tennessee just whooped Alabama,” said former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray after the rankings were revealed. “I mean, they whooped Alabama. And you’re going to tell me that Alabama is at No. 5 and Tennessee’s at No. 13 in this ranking? I do not like Alabama at No. 5”
The good news for the Vols is that they still control their own destiny. If Tennessee wins out in November, they’ll secure a spot in the 12-team playoff.
And that November journey begins this Saturday with a huge game against Kentucky in Neyland Stadium.
Kentucky is ranked No. 6 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings.
Murray, who called Tennessee’s game against Arkansas for ESPN earlier this season, has the Vols beating the Wildcats 31-21 on Saturday.
“I think George MacIntyre continues to mature in the offense,” said Murray. “I have been really impressed with his growth as the starting quarterback over the past month, and he’s got some really good receivers. Mike Matthews is electric with the football. They find creative ways to get him on skinny slants and quick screens to the outside. And I like the way they use DaSaahn Brame, the tight end. … He’s very athletic and very fast, which is why him against (Kentucky linebacker) Grant Godfrey is gonna be very interesting in the pass game because both of those guys are long and can move.
“But at the end of the day, I will continue to doubt Kentucky. I’m gonna do it myself again. I just had Kentucky, too, and I said I would stop doing it. But I like Tennessee. I like Tennessee a lot. I think Tennessee wins 31-21.”
Kentucky and Tennessee will kick off at 6:15 PM ET on Saturday. The game will air on ESPN.
