‘We’ll see if Josh Heupel and the Vols can snap that streak’ – A bizarre trend says Tennessee should lose to Kentucky
Tennessee has dominated the rivalry against Kentucky, but a recent trend says the Vols should lose the Wildcats on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.
Tennessee has dominated the rivalry against Kentucky — the Vols have only lost to the Wildcats three times since 1984 (2011, 2017, and 2020) — but a bizarre recent trend doesn’t look good for UT.
The team ranked No. 16 in the AP Top 25 poll has lost six games in a row.
“How about this for the numerologists out there?” said Fox Sports’ Chris Fallica on Friday. “You’ve got No. 16 Tennessee hosting Kentucky, which is No. 6 now in the College Football Playoff (rankings). Each of the last six games that the No. 16 team in the AP poll has played, it has lost. So, we’ll see if Josh Heupel and the Vols can snap that streak on Saturday.”
A to Z Sports’ Austin Stanley discovered this bizarre trend earlier this week.
Stanley also pointed out that Michigan was ranked No. 16 in Week 1 when they won a controversial game against Western Michigan (when one second was put back on the clock for the game-winning Hail Mary).
This is the first week of the College Football Playoff rankings — which have the Vols at No. 13 — so maybe that’ll supersede the bad AP Poll juju for the No. 16 team.
Either way, this is a game Tennessee has to win to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive.
