The Detroit Lions are set to play the Miami Dolphins in a couple of hours, but first we need to talk about who is not playing in this game. Here are the Lions’ Week 9 inactives:

IN

Anthony Lucas

When the Lions signed Lucas as a UDFA back in April, it was surprising that he went undrafted, and he was my number one prediction to be the UDFA who made the Lions’ 53-man roster. That did not happen as he fell behind Eric O’Neill. Still, you could tell the staff liked him, and he would get his shot. Now we’ll see it happen.

Sione Vaki

An injury scare late in the week put Vaki on the injury report and gave him a questionable designation. The Lions bringing up Jabari Small made it even more concerning. Now it’s not such a concern anymore; he is active.

Amon-Ra St. Brown

This one was a pretty light concern, but St. Brown was limited in practice all week and was questionable to play this game. He’s active.

OUT

Ahmed Hassanein

Even with D.J. Wonnum out, the Lions are still not going to go with Hassanein in this game, and at some point you have to wonder what the heck is going on here. Hassanein had such a promising summer, but he has still never played a regular-season game. The interesting part is that when Dan Campbell was asked about him on Friday, he didn’t even answer the question and instead talked about Anthony Lucas, who is playing today, by the way.

D.J. Wonnum, Cade Mays, and D.J. Reed

We knew these guys weren’t going to play this week. All three missed practice the entire week, and Campbell said on Friday before practice that he didn’t see any of them playing this week. So now you have to hope that they’re ready to go in Germany against the reigning AFC champions next week. Especially Reed, who is playing at an elite level right now.

Jacob Saylors

Saylors suffered a neck injury against the Vikings last week and was limited in practice all week. It looks like, despite being able to practice, the Lions are going to give him another week before they put him back out there.

Mekhi Wingo and Jackson Meeks

The usual young guys are missing another game. At some point this season, it would be cool to see Wingo get a shot to play a regular-season game. But of course, that might mean that someone is hurt.
