Depth at running back is never a bad thing.

The Cleveland Browns have taken that football-ism to heart. Cleveland plans to sign former Buffalo Bills running back Nyheim Hines to a one-year deal worth up to $3.5 million, ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Tuesday

Adding Hines into the mix doesn't affect the running back depth chart for Cleveland.

Hines will most likely be a backup to Jerome Ford if Nick Chubb isn't ready to play in Week 1.

Once Chubb does return, Hines will be the No. 3 running back on the depth chart.

He will likely play a receiving back role within the Browns offense and be a special teams contributor.

Hines was released by the Bills earlier this month. A Jet Ski crash during the 2023 offseason led to him missing the entire year.

Before the injury, Hines played a majority of the time as a kick returner in Buffalo. A crowning moment in his career came in 2022 when he returned a pair of kickoffs for touchdowns in a win over the Washington Commanders in Week 18.
