The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered a huge loss on Friday when five-star cornerback John Meredith chose the Texas Longhorns over the Capstone and a handful of other schools that were heavily involved in his recruitment.

But Alabama bounced back with a notable commitment in the 2028 class from four-star CB Braylen Gibbs, who flipped from the Commodores to the Crimson Tide. And while many were out celebrating on Father’s Day, Alabama secured yet another notable name in the 2027 class, and this one is very on brand for what Mo Linguist and Kane Wommack are building on the backend.

Alabama 2027 recruiting class

  • QB Elijah Haven (5-star)
  • QB Trent Seaborn (4-star)
  • RB Nigel Newkirk (4-star)
  • DL Avrian “AJ” Pauley (3-star)
  • TE Michael Nnabuife (3-star)
  • TE Oakley Keegan (3-star)
  • Kicker Luke Cody
  • RB Tai Phillips (3-star)
  • CB Darrius White (3-star)

Alabama secures commitment from 3-star CB Darrius White

White marks the latest in what has become a trend among Alabama defensive backs. Nick Saban was notorious for being the best defensive backs coach not only in college ball, but arguably in all of football. But Saban wasn’t a stickler when it came to height.

Sure, Alabama had plenty of big and tall corners. That’s just the name of the game when you have your pick of the litter among 5-stars. But this version of Alabama…If you’re not 6-0 or taller, good luck making it into consideration for that room.

Alabama continues hunting size at the cornerback position

Dijon Lee, who burst onto the scene as a true freshman last year, showed firsthand why size is important for Wommack’s scheme. His running mate, Zabien Brown, who is on pace to be a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, is also over 6 feet.

The longer and taller a corner is in the new version of Alabama’s defense, the more chances there are for batted balls, interceptions, and above all else, takeways, which is what that 4-2-5 swarm thrives off of.

White will be the latest in a line that hopes to turn their God-given ability into something even greater.
