For the Alabama Crimson Tide to have any shot at the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, a lot needed to happen on Saturday.
It started with a win over the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl, but the Tide were always going to need help to make it back to the postseason.
After some of that help occurred, HC Kalen DeBoer was asked why his team deserves to be in the CFP, and he didn't hold back:
Kalen DeBoer thinks Alabama's resume is up to snuff
"I think everyone's aware of our schedule, and I don't know the exact stats, but I know we beat four top-25 teams throughout the year," said DeBoer when asked why UA should be in the 12-team playoff. "And I don't know how many, [or] if anyone's done that. And so, when you talk about the schedule and who did what, it is week to week, just a grind. And having to come back every week the only conference that has to do that is ours…
"…We won five of our last six. [We're] playing physical football. [I] Think we've continued to excel in that area. We were what the game was all about. So I think those are two pretty big deals [wins and physicality]. We beat some high-quality teams, teams that are still playing some good ball themselves."
DeBoer does make a strong case for the Tide, who boast a resume that includes wins over Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri, and LSU.
But to play devil's advocate, their resume also includes three losses, including two downright embarrassing performances against Vanderbilt and Oklahoma.
But the Tide did receive some help on Saturday, via multiple upsets. The OSU loss likely will do little to help, but South Carolina taking down the 12th-ranked Clemson Tigers and Syracuse doing the unthinkable against the University of Miami could go a long way in getting Alabama to the postseason.
DeBoer's emboldened response likely won't hurt either.
