Deion Sanders is proving to be pretty good as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. On top of guiding Colorado to the brink of a Big 12 title appearance with his son, Shedeur Sanders, as the quarterback, Deion has restocked the Buffaloes' roster once again. Colorado is seeing good results in recruiting and in the transfer portal.

On top of adding top 2025 quarterback Julian Lewis, the Buffaloes landed Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter. Salter was viewed as one of the elite dual-threats in the nation in 2023.

Flashback to one year ago when Salter first entered the transfer portal, and it seemed as though he could've made a big jump from Conference USA to a Power 4 starting gig. He had just won MVP of the league and totaled over 3,900 yards and 44 touchdowns.

However, Liberty and Salter had a down campaign, leading to a flurry of quality players hitting the portal again. The former Tennessee Volunteer was dismissed from the team before the 2021 season but quickly found a home .

Salter plays similarly to Sanders, though he doesn't quite have the arm talent or natural ability to avoid pressure and create downfield. He's not a Temu-version of Sanders, but he is an offshoot who can't quite replicate what Sanders mastered over the course of his career.

Colorado boasts an improved offensive supporting cast compared to what we saw in 2023. Seniors Will Sheppard, Jimmy Horn Jr., LaJohntay Webster, and a few others will be in the NFL next year, plus Travis Hunter.

This will be a different set of playmakers on offense once again, but the backup depth is more encouraging than what we saw previously.

Salter is hoping to make his own bid as an NFL prospect for 2026. Profiling best as a backup, he'll have to master some more advanced concepts from offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, though I expect a high dosage of easy RPO concepts to ease the transition.
