Someone at LSU may have some apologizing to do this week.

On Monday, Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin was asked about the social media clips of quarterback Sam Leavitt running at LSU’s fall scrimmage this past weekend. Kiffin was not aware that the clips had been posted to social media, and he acted a bit miffed about it.

“I didn’t know we released those,” said Kiffin. “So I don’t know what’s on there. I don’t know that I’m happy about that.

“He’s moved great, and really we knew obviously what an athlete he was – especially two years ago on film. But he moves around great. He got out of a lot of trouble with some great pass rushes and great pressures that came at him, and some that came free, on Saturday.”

Leavitt, of course, is coming off Lisfranc surgery that caused him to miss most of spring practice after arriving at LSU as a transfer from Arizona State.

I’m not sure why college football coaches are so paranoid these days. Practices across the sport are locked down like there’s something super secret going on that no one can see. And they act like if anyone finds out what’s happening, they’re giving their opponents some crazy advantage.

I understand some of the paranoia because of what we’ve seen over the past couple of years in college football — such as the Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal at Michigan. But I don’t think a clip of Leavitt running at a scrimmage is going to give away any top secret information that’s going to help someone beat LSU.

Everyone knows Leavitt is a playmaker, and if he’s out there, he’s going to be a threat to run regardless of what surgery he had in the spring.
